About the role
Journey Success Center is dedicated to fostering holistic student success through peer coaching, academic support, and social development. We aim to create a thriving community where students can achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Peer Coaching: Receive training in coaching, which offers a modality for partnering in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires a client or student to maximize their personal and professional potential (International Coaching Federation). Provide one-on-one coaching sessions to fellow Penn State students, helping them navigate academic challenges, set personal and academic goals, and develop effective strategies for success. Utilize relational mindfulness and motivational interviewing techniques to support fellow Penn State students in their personal and academic growth. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all coaching interactions.
- Workshop Development: Assist in the creation, planning, and execution of workshops focused on elements of BALANSE: Belonging and mattering; Academic skills and institutional capital; Life purpose and sources of meaning; Awareness, metacognition, and mindfulness; Necessities for financial security and financial literacy; Safety and physical health; Emotional and mental health. Collaborate with the Journey Success Center team to identify student needs and tailor workshops to address those needs effectively. Facilitate workshops and engage participants in interactive and meaningful learning experiences.
- Program Support: Contribute to the continuous improvement of Journey Success Center services by providing feedback and suggestions based on your own experiences and observations as a Penn State student. Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge in peer coaching and workshop facilitation.
- Campus Learning Assistant: In the Fall semester, coaches will also have the opportunity to work as a learning assistant (undergraduate TA) for a first-year seminar and Educational Psychology course on “Happiness through Mindful Learning”. The first-year seminar course is a great opportunity to connect with new students to support their transition to Penn State. The Educational Psychology course is a general health and wellness course where students learn about research and philosophy related to the concept of Happiness as well as engage in mindfulness practices as they connect these practices and concepts to their experiences as students.

- Enrolled as a student in the College of Education at Penn State University.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to helping others and fostering a supportive community.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in personal development, coaching, and workshop facilitation.

Pay
The pay rate for this internship is $15.00 per hour.
Schedule
The schedule for this internship is flexible and will be determined based on the availability of the intern and the needs of the Journey Success Center.
