Salary: $22.66 – $28.93 per hour. External candidates start at Step A–C based on verified experience. Regular employees on promotion are placed at the lowest step of the new range, providing an approximate 5% raise within the salary schedule.

About the role

Under general supervision of the Program Specialist – Vocational Education, provide job coaching, job development, and case management to students and adults with special education needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support and assist special education students and adults with job training, placement, and job maintenance, including mobility and job training.
  • Help students and adults complete applications, write resumes, and build interview skills.
  • Observe and report on job performance.
  • Interface with employers, care providers, and others regarding job training and performance.
  • Assist in developing employment opportunities, including onsite contact with current and potential employers.
  • Conduct career assessments, inventories, and career exploration activities as needed.
  • Keep records and perform clerical tasks as required.
  • Attend required meetings and in-services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of behavior and characteristics of special education students and adults.
  • Knowledge of supervision and motivation techniques for special education students and adults.
  • Proficiency in correct oral and written English, spelling, and basic arithmetic.
  • Understanding of vocational and habilitation job training principles and practices.
  • Ability to work with special education students and adults.
  • Ability to follow procedures for developing and implementing supported employment opportunities.
  • Skill in compiling and maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites using a personal vehicle and, when necessary, drive a district vehicle carrying students.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends.

Experience

One year of experience working with disabled students or adults that has provided knowledge and abilities aligned with the above requirements.
