About the role
The Vocational Services Program, located in Wayne and Oakland Counties, provides job training and placement for adults with developmental disabilities and physical impairments. The goal of the program is to introduce these adults into the competitive job market. The Job Coach assists the consumer at their place of employment. To provide support for people with disabilities in community employment and community empowerment through job coaching and ongoing skills development, and assumes the responsibility for implementing appropriate plans.
Responsibilities
- Record and monitor individual consumers’ productivity, ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Assure that work performed adheres to job specifications
- Conduct job and task analyses to determine basic elements of task(s) to be learned and performed by supported employees
- Identify possible learning barriers and determine the most suitable training method for each task
- Follow up by gathering information on individuals work performance and facilitate natural supports
- Educate employer and co-workers in the supervision, training, communication and support of the individual
- Evaluate consumer and assess needs that result in successful level of job performance
- Communicate effectively and assure quality expected by employers
- Maintain case records and progress reporting systems in compliance with agency standards concerning progress on goals, vocational training, and behavior deviations
- Provide advocacy support services to protect the rights of individuals seeking supported employment
- Strive to create awareness to the training and employment capabilities of individuals with disabilities
- Advocate for individuals with disabilities at speaking engagements, as well as with employers
- Maintain flexible work schedule
- Participates in required trainings
- Attend all scheduled team meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Previous experience working with people with developmental disabilities or in a related field
- Knowledge of ADA guidelines and types of disabilities
- Knowledge of workforce development practices for people with disabilities including customized employment
- Experience in Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work, and or Workforce Development
- Ability to provide culturally competent services that shows sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License, appropriate insurance and use of own vehicle
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Basic computer skills
