JJYS Youth Development Associate/Specialist-Washington County Secure

Full-time, in-office position located at 330 S 5300 W, Hurricane, Utah, 84737.

About the Role

The Utah Division of Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) provides prevention, intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation services to youth offenders while ensuring public safety. Team members have the opportunity to see the direct impact of their work in improving the well-being of at-risk youth transitioning into adulthood.

Responsibilities

• Mentor, oversee, and work closely with non-custody youth, occasionally including high-risk or violent youth offenders
• Schedule and supervise individual and group activities
• Assist in teaching pro-social, academic, and vocational skills
• Implement specialized treatment plans
• Co-facilitate individual, family, or group sessions with a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner
• Pass the Integrated Crisis Response (ICR) intervention program within 90 days of employment
• Provide crisis intervention and resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure safety
• Transport youth
• Communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally

Requirements

This recruitment will be filled as either a Youth Development Associate or Youth Development Specialist based on qualifications:

• Youth Development Associate:
  • Two years of paid experience with troubled or at-risk youth, two years of full-time education, or a combination equaling two years
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License
  • Pay range: $18.55 - $29.45/hour (typically starts at $18.55/hour)
• Youth Development Specialist:
  • Four years of paid experience with troubled or at-risk youth, four years of full-time education, or a combination equaling four years
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License
  • Pay range: $20.69 - $32.81/hour (typically starts at $20.74/hour)

Preference may be given to candidates who:

• Are 21 years of age or older
• Have a high school diploma or GED

Qualifying work experience includes: Paid work at JJYS facilities, Utah State Hospital, Utah State Developmental Center, private residential youth programs, alternative schools (working with at-risk or delinquent youths), juvenile probation/parole, law enforcement, correctional officer roles, or programs serving at-risk or delinquent youth.

Non-qualifying work experience: Volunteer work or unpaid experience with youth.
