JJYS Youth Development Associate/Specialist (School Based Outreach) - Washington County

Full-time, in-office position located at 330 S 5300 W, Hurricane, Utah, 84737. Background check and drug test required.

About The Role

The Utah Division of Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) provides a continuum of prevention, intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation services and programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety. Team members have the unique opportunity to see the impacts of their hard work and dedication to improve the well-being of youth. JJYS team members provide critical support and guidance to youth at-risk for delinquency while they transition into adulthood.

Responsibilities

• Teach problem solving, decision making, goal setting, and resiliency skills through quick interactive lessons in the school and community.
• Establish collaborative relationships with outside agencies (Local Mental Health Authority, School District, Law Enforcement Agencies, DCFS, and Probation) to keep youth accountable and educate families about available community resources.
• Mentor select youth and their families, teaching skills such as positive discipline, routine, responsibility, time management, rules and rewards, communication, and creating wholesome traditions.
• Oversee and work closely with high-risk/volatile youth with complex behavioral problems.
• Assess client physical, mental, social, and behavioral needs.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Conduct individual, family, or group counseling sessions in accordance with the established treatment plan.
• Identify and apply appropriate security, safety, and control intervention techniques.
• Supervise youth with complex behavioral needs.
• Write court reports, parole summaries, treatment plans, and supervision standards.
• Lead or functionally supervise staff; delegate work assignments, monitor/review quality of work, schedule staff, provide technical assistance or training, provide input on performance appraisals, hiring, and discipline.
• Make decisions consistent with the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
• Transport youth.
• Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Complete the Integrated Crisis Response (ICR) intervention program within 90 days of employment (coordinated by Juvenile Justice).

Requirements

This recruitment will be filled as a Youth Development Associate or Youth Development Specialist depending on qualifications:

• Youth Development Associate:
  • Two years of paid working experience with troubled or at-risk youth, two years of full-time education, or a combination of education and experience to equal two years.
  • Valid Utah Driver's License.
  • Pay range: $18.55 - $29.45 per hour (typically starts at $18.55 per hour).
• Youth Development Specialist:
  • Four years of paid working experience with troubled or at-risk youth, four years of full-time education, or a combination of education and experience to equal four years.
  • Valid Utah Driver's License.
  • Pay range: $20.69 - $32.81 per hour (typically starts at $20.74 per hour).

Preference may be given to candidates who:

• Are 21 years of age or older.
• Have a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifying work experience includes: Paid work at any JJYS facility, Utah State Hospital, Utah State Developmental Center, private residential youth programs, alternative schools (working with at-risk or delinquent youths), juvenile probation/parole, law enforcement, correctional officer, or programs that work with at-risk or delinquent youths.

Non-qualifying work experience: Volunteer work with youth or unpaid experience.
