Responsibilities

• Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS
• Monitor visitors and residents within the facility
• Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth
• Assist the Control Supervisor by making perimeter checks
• Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques to people, facilities, and property
• Participate in one week of New Employee Training within the first 90 days after hire to introduce principles and practices used in work with youth and families
• Participate in one week of verbal and physical de-escalation training to provide skills for working with youth with challenging behaviors
• Transport youth
• Provide a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety
• Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing (read and understand information presented in writing)

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Availability to work rotating shifts, including days, swing, graveyard, weekends, and holidays
• Preference for candidates 19 years of age or older
• Preference for candidates with a high school diploma or GED
• Preference for candidates that speak multiple languages
• A valid Utah Driver's License

Work Environment & Schedule

• Dynamic, fast-paced environment that can sometimes require physical exertion and active physical intervention for safety
• Shifts often involve rotating schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays depending on location

Skills

• Ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time
• High risks include physical intervention with clients to de-escalate hostile or volatile situations
