JJYS Technician II-Millcreek Youth Center
About the role
The Department of Health and Human Services is dedicated to providing care for individuals and families of Utah. Utah Division of Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) provides a continuum of prevention, intervention, supervision and rehabilitation services and programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS
- Monitor and coordinate activities for the youth
- Aid the Control Supervisor by making perimeter checks
- Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and the public
- Apply appropriate intervention techniques to people, facilities, and property
- Participate in one week of New Employee Training and one week of verbal and physical de-escalation training
- Transport youth offenders while ensuring public safety
- Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing
Qualifications
- Willingness to be part of a thriving team focused on changing young lives, supporting families, and keeping communities safe
- Availability to work rotating shifts, days, swing, graveyard, weekends, and holidays
- Candidates must be 19 years of age or older
- Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED
- Candidates should speak multiple languages
- A valid Utah Driver's License is required
Requirements
Background check and drug test are required. Physical intervention and lifting up to 50 lbs. are necessary for this position.

Work requires physical exertion and requires the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
