About the role
The Department of Health and Human Services operates the Utah Division of Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS), providing a continuum of prevention, intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation services and programs to youth offenders while ensuring public safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS
- Monitor visitors and residents within the facility
- Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth
- Auxiliary duties under the Control Supervisor, including perimeter checks
- Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and the public
- Apply appropriate intervention techniques to people, facilities, and property
- Transport youth offenders while assuring public safety
- Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 19
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Utah Driver's License
- Preference given to candidates who speak multiple languages
Requirements
- Availability to work rotating shifts, days, swing, graveyard, weekends, and holidays
