About the role
We're looking for a Java Engineer to join our DHA EIDS team, building and maintaining the backend services and integrations that power enterprise health data delivery across the Military Health System.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services and APIs in Java (Java 11/17+) and .NET (ASP.NET Core / .NET 6+)
- Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices using Spring Boot and ASP.NET Core
- Work across the full backend stack including business logic, data access, and API integrations
- Write clean, well-tested code using JUnit, xUnit/NUnit, and test-driven development practices
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality and security
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Git, GitHub Actions, or similar tooling
- Participate in code reviews, technical design, and Agile ceremonies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. In alignment with federal contract requirements, certain roles may also require U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation and/or a security clearance.
Qualifications
- Strong Java proficiency with hands-on experience in modern Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, JPA/Hibernate)
- .NET development experience including C#, ASP.NET Core, and Web API development
- Proficiency in SQL and relational databases such as MS SQL Server or Oracle
- Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks
- Demonstrated experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor for development tasks
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS is a plus
- Understanding of federal security and compliance requirements is a plus
- Thrives in a remote, collaborative Agile environment and genuinely enjoys working closely with a cross-functional team
- Communicates clearly and openly, whether in a code review or a cross-team planning session

Pay
United States Wage Range: $100,000 – $140,000
