Java Engineer

This Java Engineer role offers the opportunity to collaborate with product managers, UX designers, architects, principal engineers, software engineers, test automation professionals, and DevOps teams to help design, build, configure, and maintain high-performing applications. Responsibilities Design, develop, configure, deploy, and support scalable application solutionsBuild secure software and contribute to application and product architectureCollaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver modern software products and enhancementsDevelop services and APIs that support business needs and technical standardsWork with cloud platforms to create, configure, and deploy applicationsParticipate in agile ceremonies and contribute to design artifacts and technical documentationSupport testing, installation, operations, deployment, and maintenance activitiesUse analytical thinking to solve complex technical problems and improve solutions over timeHelp assess technology risks and contribute to remediation planning for systems nearing end of life or end of support Skills Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experienceAt least 2 years of relevant experienceExperience designing and developing secure applications and productsHands-on experience with Java and Spring BootKnowledge of REST API development and microservices architectureExperience with SQL and relational databasesFamiliarity with source control and CI/CD tools such as Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and MavenUnderstanding of code quality and testing tools such as SonarQube, JUnit, and TestNGExperience with cloud deployment, especially Microsoft Azure or another cloud platformStrong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skillsAbility to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Preferred Skills Experience with Oracle, Datadog, OAuth 2.0, Docker, and KubernetesFamiliarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar toolsExperience using GenAI tools for code generation, refactoring, debugging, documentation, or test creationInterest in applying AI to improve developer productivity, software quality, and modernization effortsExperience working in agile development environmentsAbility to interpret technical trends and help plan remediation efforts for aging systemsExperience creating clear technical documentation and presenting data effectively Horizontal is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued, and every team member is supported in contributing their best work.
