Janitor/Groundskeeper

About the role

This position is responsible for the general cleaning of the building, grounds, and building equipment at the properties maintained by Historic Tours of America. The goal is to ensure that the company's image is reflected in the appearance of its equipment and facilities while maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness.

Responsibilities

• Gathering/emptying trash
• Service, cleaning, and supplying restrooms
• Cleaning building floor by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
• Cleaning windows and mirrors
• Dusting furniture, walls, fixtures, and office machines
• Sweeping outdoor walkways
• Trimming vegetation and grass
• Keeping grounds free of litter and weeds
• Covering retail displays during rainy conditions
• Ensuring rain drainage areas are free of debris
• Restocking supplies and informing supervisor when low on supplies
• Reporting safety hazards to supervisor

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred
• Must pass pre-employment background check and substance abuse testing

Qualifications

• High degrees of self-motivation and the ability to work independently and as a team over long periods of time within the scope of established rules and regulations
• Ability to determine the type of tool and equipment needed to do a job
• Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking the time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times
• Ability to deal with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous people in a pleasant, calm, courteous manner
• Ability to read, write, and speak clear English to communicate with coworkers and the general public
