Janitor/Custodian - Secured Access

Obtaining and maintaining the appropriate Security Clearance is required to access the primary worksite. Obtaining Security Clearance can be a lengthy process and will be discussed during the initial interview. We invite applicants eligible for the AbilityOne Program to apply.

About the Role

We’re hiring Custodians to help keep things clean and running smoothly. No prior experience is required—we’ll train you and ensure you feel confident every step of the way.

Location: Charlottesville, VA 22911
Shift: Per Diem, as needed (must be willing to learn how to strip and clean floors)
Pay: $27.54 per day

A Day in the Life

• Check in with your supervisor and teammates to review the cleaning plan for the day.
• Gather cleaning supplies (mops, brooms, vacuums, disinfectants, etc.) and transport them to your assigned area.
• Perform cleaning tasks, including:
  • Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
  • Taking out trash and replacing liners.
  • Cleaning restrooms, refilling supplies, and wiping down surfaces (tables, chairs, doors, etc.).
  • Dusting furniture, shelves, and vents.
  • Cleaning windows, mirrors, and glass doors.
• Conduct a final walkthrough to ensure the area is clean and tidy.
• Return tools and supplies to storage and prepare for the next shift.

Physical & Environmental Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching to clean and maintain areas.
• Repetitive motions such as mopping, sweeping, wiping, and scrubbing surfaces.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull cleaning equipment and supplies weighing up to 25-30 pounds regularly.
• Navigating stairs, ramps, or uneven flooring while carrying tools or supplies.
• Work primarily indoors in commercial buildings with varying temperature and lighting conditions.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and solvents (training and PPE provided).
• Possible exposure to dust, dirt, allergens, and biohazardous materials (safety protocols and PPE in place).
• Working in confined or awkward spaces (e.g., under sinks, behind furniture).
• Noise from cleaning machinery (hearing protection provided when necessary).
