About the role
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office seeks highly motivated candidates with strong communication and interpersonal skills to join the Jail Deputy, Recruit pool. Applicants must take the REACT written/video exam and transfer their scores to Clackamas County OR upload a transcript if they have a Bachelor's level degree or higher at the time of application submission.
Responsibilities
- Maintain order, discipline, and security of inmates in County jail facilities
- Supervise the security and conduct of inmates in various settings
- Perform routine internal security checks
- Assist Jail Deputies in performing perimeter checks/security checks
- Answer routine inmate questions, conduct limited investigations, and write reports
- Support in processing activities such as booking and release, fingerprinting, photography, custody level assessment, medical screening, and issuing of clothing and supplies
- Inspect living quarters for contraband and check sanitary conditions
- Follow orders from doctors or nurses in the care of ill inmates
- Transport inmates within the facility or to/from court, medical facilities, work locations, or other detention facilities
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age by the date of employment
- Must be a United States citizen or within eighteen (18) months of hire
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate, or a bachelor degree from an accredited institution
- Must be free from serious convictions
- Must be willing to be fingerprinted and have fingerprints filed with the State
- Must meet Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements
- Must meet the Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer
- Must meet the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office tattoo policy
- Must successfully pass the REACT exam through National Testing Network OR upload proof of Bachelor's degree or higher (transcript)
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test
- Must pass an extensive background investigation, including national fingerprint records check
- Must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical assessment and psychological evaluation
- Must be able to drive for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work

Benefits
Compensation includes an annual pay range of $77,061.83 to $49.78 per hour, depending on experience.
