Jail Deputy, Lateral (Experienced Corrections)
About the role
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office seeks experienced law enforcement professionals to fill the position of Jail Deputy. This role requires a combination of law enforcement experience and certification as a Corrections Officer or Jail Deputy.
Responsibilities
- Maintains order, discipline, and security of inmates in County facilities
- Supervises the security and conduct of inmates in various settings
- Answers inmate questions, conducts investigations, and testifies in judicial proceedings
- Processes inmates admitted and discharged, including booking and release procedures
- Maintains records and writes reports as required
- Performs internal security checks and conducts perimeter checks
- Transports inmates within the facility or to/from external locations
- Operates the control room to ensure secure access to facility areas
- Checks in individuals entering the facility, including handling warrant turn-ins
Requirements
- Must be currently or have been certified as a basic Corrections Officer or Jail Deputy/Officer with at least one (1) year of civilian law enforcement experience as a Jail Deputy/Officer within the last five (5) years
- Must be 21 years of age by date of employment
- Must be a United States citizen or within eighteen (18) months of hire
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate, or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Must be free from serious convictions
- Must be willing to be fingerprinted and have fingerprints filed with the State
- Must meet Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements
- Must meet the Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer as provided for in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-008-0010
- Must meet the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office tattoo policy
- Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation, including national fingerprint records check
- Must pass an extensive post-offer pre-employment physical assessment and psychological evaluation
- Must successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test
- Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record
Qualifications
- Knowledge of criminal attitudes and behavior patterns
- Knowledge of purposes and methods of discipline as applied to prisoners under criminal confinement
- Experience maintaining close security and supervising the activities of inmates
- Experience overseeing inmates in all phases of incarceration
- Experience writing reports
- Experience testifying in various proceedings
- Experience transporting inmates

Benefits
Annual Pay Range: $80,869.32 - $103,558.83
Hourly Pay Range: $38.879479 - $49.787899
