About the role

The Item and Routing Creation Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate product and manufacturing data within the company’s ERP system. This role supports manufacturing operations by creating new item records and establishing accurate production routings. The position works closely with engineering, production, purchasing, and planning teams to ensure item and routing data supports efficient production scheduling, cost accuracy, and inventory control.

Responsibilities

  • Item Master Data Management: Create and maintain item master records in the ERP system; enter and update product specifications, units of measure, item descriptions, and classification data; ensure all new part numbers are created according to company standards; maintain accurate inventory and purchasing attributes.
  • Routing and Manufacturing Data: Develop and maintain manufacturing routings within the ERP system; enter production steps, work centers, labor standards, and machine times; support production planning by ensuring routing accuracy for scheduling and capacity planning.
  • Data Accuracy & Maintenance: Audit item, BOM, and routing data to ensure accuracy and consistency; identify and correct discrepancies in ERP system records; maintain documentation for data standards and procedures.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with engineering, production, purchasing, and inventory teams to gather required information; assist with ERP data requests from internal departments; support new product introductions by preparing necessary system data.
  • Reporting & Support: Generate reports related to item setup, BOM structures, and routings as requested; assist with ERP system data cleanup projects; support continuous improvement initiatives related to data management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred in Business, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, ERP data entry, production planning, or inventory control.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic computer systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Bills of Materials (BOM), routings, and production processes.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings or part specifications.
  • Experience supporting ERP implementations or system upgrades.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (up to 8–12 hours per shift).
  • Regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and products up to 25–50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling, assembling, and operating machinery and tools.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and arms.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to hear machine sounds, alarms, and verbal instructions in a manufacturing environment.
  • Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, crouching, twisting and climbing to load/unload materials and maintain equipment.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with noise, vibration, and varying temperatures, while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
