About the role

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is seeking an IT Technician 5 within the Data and Technology Services Division. The position supports all aspects of the Department’s IT infrastructure, including desktop computer support, hardware deployment, maintenance, and help desk requests. Other responsibilities include software management and support, printer and print server management, installing and troubleshooting local and wide area networks, installing and maintaining physical and virtual servers, Active Directory user account creation and management, end user hardware configuration, serving as the lead technical support specialist for agency meetings, conferences, and other event venues, ensuring reliable operation of audiovisual, networking, and IT systems, and mobile device management.

Responsibilities

  • Supports all aspects of the Department’s IT infrastructure, including desktop computer support, hardware deployment, maintenance, and help desk requests.
  • Software management and support including O365.
  • Printer and print server management.
  • Installing and troubleshooting local and wide area networks.
  • Installing and maintaining physical and virtual servers.
  • Active Directory user account creation and management.
  • End user hardware configuration.
  • Serve as the lead technical support specialist for agency meetings, conferences, and other event venues, ensuring reliable operation of audiovisual, networking, and IT systems.
  • Mobile device management.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of IT work experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network workstation hardware and software.
  • One year of relevant experience as an IT Technician IV in Nevada State service.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Qualifications

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are desired to support and train Department staff on the use of IT services. The position requires attention to detail and high levels of organization, as well as the ability to prioritize and accomplish diverse tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of: installation, maintenance, and configuration of workstations and applications; network connectivity with regard to network interface cards, IP addressing configurations, and DNS settings.
  • General knowledge of: IP addressing schemes and subnet configuration.
  • Ability to: install and maintain work group operating systems; identify and correct hardware and software problems; provide effective customer service to users; communicate effectively orally and in writing; upgrade hardware components on the base unit; configure applications for optimum performance; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and interview users to identify needs and resolve workstation issues.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Eligible due to public sector employment.

Longevity Payments Eligibility: Employees who have received a performance rating of “standard” or better and have completed eight (8) or more years of continuous service are eligible for longevity pay.

Additional benefits may apply to employees covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), depending on their designated bargaining unit.

State Holidays: The holiday schedule for State employees is established by the Legislature.

When January 1, June 19, July 4, November 11, or December 25 falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is the observed legal holiday. If these days fall on Sunday, the following Monday is the observed holiday.

Eligibility for holiday pay is covered by the provisions of NAC 284.255.
