IT TECHNICIAN 4

About the Role

The Nevada Department of Corrections is seeking to fill an IT Tech 4 position in Carson City. This role will provide enterprise support to 18 locations, acting as Help Desk Support, establishing and assisting new users of Corrections applications, and troubleshooting initial help requests. Regular business hours are 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with travel and on-call coverage required.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development and revision of policies and procedures related to a functional area.
• Review policies and procedures for changes applicable to IT.
• Maintain operations, tasks, security, and/or functional area logs.
• Review instructions from other IT staff and correct or return for revisions as necessary.
• Perform advanced journey-level duties, serve as a project leader or lead-worker, and provide training to IT Technicians.
• Troubleshoot and resolve help requests, assigning to other IT staff or referring to vendors/service repair.
• Maintain help request tracking software and utilities.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of experience utilizing typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, with three years in a user support role.
• One year of relevant experience as an IT Technician III in Nevada State service.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Detailed knowledge of commercially available operating systems, help desk applications, computer systems, and user password security principles.
• Working knowledge of database principles, network domains, and web browser capabilities.
• General knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Pascal, COBOL) and network troubleshooting.
• Ability to create disk images, develop documentation, provide testing support, and restore data from backup media.
