IT Support Specialist
Overview
We are seeking an IT Support Specialist to support a large IT program for the Department of Veteran Affairs. In this role, you will be responsible for deploying, imaging, and setting up a variety of IT equipment across VA medical centers and offsite training locations. Your work will involve unboxing, configuring, and installing hardware such as PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, and network connections, often in a fast-paced environment that requires excellent customer service skills. This position offers the opportunity to work onsite at VA facilities, supporting critical technology deployments that directly impact veteran care.
Education Requirements
A high school diploma or GED is required; bachelor's degree preferred. Candidates with 8 years of professional experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree in IT, CS, EE, or IS are also eligible.
Clearance Requirements
The ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance is required for this opportunity.
Work Arrangement
This is a fully on-site position at the Togus VA Medical Center (1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330). Candidates must have reliable transportation available during work hours.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, image, and set up IT equipment including PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, and network devices.
- Unbox, install, configure, and remove hardware with limited supervision.
- Re-pack hardware for shipment and transport equipment across campus and to offsite locations.
- Set up equipment at various training sites and support hardware and software troubleshooting.
- Conduct routine system administration tasks and log data in system admin logs.
- Support hardware break-fix activities, upgrades, and deployment projects.
- Transport equipment safely around the site campus, often lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Maintain a high level of customer service while supporting technical needs.
- Troubleshoot a wide variety of systems and networks, including high availability systems.
- Work independently to ensure timely and effective support.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1-year experience in imaging and installing computer equipment.
- Ability to unpack, move, and install pallets of IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Personal transportation available during work hours.
- Experience with hardware and software support, troubleshooting, system imaging, and hardware break-fix support.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Experience with system administration tasks and troubleshooting diverse systems and networks.
- Knowledge of debugging protocols and processes.
- A high school diploma or GED, or 8 years of professional experience in a related field in lieu of a degree.
Desired Skills
- Experience with the ServiceNow ticketing system.
- Prior experience supporting VA or similar government agencies.
- Familiarity with Public Trust clearance processes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
- Strong physical ability to move and install equipment in various settings.
