IT Server Engineer

About the role

The IT Server Engineer designs, deploys, maintains, and optimizes the organization’s server infrastructure—both on-premises and in the cloud—ensuring system availability, performance, and security for mission-critical applications, patient management systems, and business operations across multiple dental practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support cloud migration initiatives, including planning, execution, and post-migration optimization across platforms such as Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments.
• Design, implement, and support cloud-based infrastructure solutions, including virtual machines, storage, identity integration, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Manage multiple infrastructure projects simultaneously, balancing operational support with strategic initiatives while meeting defined deadlines and service-level expectations.
• Support the development and implementation of future server technology initiatives, including infrastructure modernization, virtualization upgrades, and automation-driven improvements.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools (PowerShell, Bash, or similar) to streamline server provisioning, patch management, monitoring, and routine administrative tasks.
• Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure performance, scalability, and reliability through automation and process optimization.
• Work independently to troubleshoot and resolve complex server, virtualization, storage, and operating system issues across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with organizational standards, security requirements, and compliance frameworks.
• Proactively evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations that support long-term infrastructure growth and efficiency.
• Maintain accurate documentation for server builds, configurations, change management, and disaster recovery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years of IT experience.
• 3-5+ years of experience with Data Center infrastructure and virtualization technologies.
• Expert working knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware).
• Administration experience with Microsoft OS, Citrix, VMware, Unix, and Linux technologies.
• Administration experience with Microsoft technologies such as SharePoint, Active Directory, and Exchange.
• Strong documentation skills in a large-scale environment.
• Experience with PowerShell scripting.
• Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Datto, Acronis).
• Knowledge of IT security best practices and regulatory requirements (HIPAA a plus).
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
• Proven customer relationship skills.
• Certifications preferred: MCSA, MCSE, VMware VCP, or related.

Pay

Position base pay range: $90,000 USD – $100,000 USD.
