About the role
Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology (BCAT) is seeking a part-time IT Security Instructor to teach in-classroom instruction to a maximum of 20 adult students. Topics covered will include physical security, operating systems, malware, cryptography, and exam prep. Classes meet Monday through Thursday for 3 hours each night from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. BCAT uses a standardized curriculum/syllabus for the technical knowledge and provides support as needed. Instructors are compensated for all teaching hours per week with additional hours of paid prep time each week.
Schedule
2–4 evenings per week, 5:30pm – 8:30pm.
Responsibilities
- Prepare lesson plans and present facilitative, well-prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities.
- Promote students' development of IT skills, communication, professionalism, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Collaborate with team members to support adult learners using multiple adult learning teaching techniques.
- Keep class relevant and engaging, incorporating real-world career experiences from both the instructor and students.
- Focus on developing and maintaining excellent relationships with a diverse staff and student population.
- Participate in key organizational events such as student showcases, program graduations, open houses, community outreach efforts, and other mission-driven activities.
- Assist with cross-departmental projects, contribute to organizational initiatives, and provide occasional coverage or support in response to evolving operational, student, or program needs.
Requirements
- Must meet the NYSED teaching credentialing requirements and be willing to obtain NYS teaching license.
- Must meet one of the following:
- BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related field;
- AS degree in Computer Science and two years of full-time practical experience as a Computer Systems Analyst; OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of full-time practical experience as a Computer Systems Analyst.
- Must have a current CompTIA Security+ Certification.
- Must have a CTT, MTC, CNI, or CLI Certificate.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Experience instructing adult learners is a plus.
