About the Role
We're hiring our first IT Operations Engineer to help build and scale a modern workplace technology function from the ground up. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys designing reliable systems, solving complex technical challenges, and creating an exceptional technology experience for employees. As the technical partner to the IT & Security Leader, you'll help build and mature our workplace technology, identity and access management, endpoint management, collaboration platforms, and IT operations. You'll have meaningful ownership, drive automation, establish scalable IT practices, and help shape how workplace technology evolves as the company grows. This role is on-site at our San Francisco office in the Dogpatch neighborhood.
Responsibilities
- Workplace Technology & Endpoint Management: Own and continuously improve our workplace technology environment, including Mac fleet management, MDM, hardware lifecycle, endpoint compliance, and collaboration platforms such as Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, and Zoom Rooms. Automate and optimize employee onboarding and offboarding to deliver secure, efficient, and scalable access management.
- Identity, Access & Network Management: Manage identity and access across our business systems, including Okta, SSO, MFA, lifecycle automation, role-based access, and privileged access workflows. Support and improve office networking, internet connectivity, and core office infrastructure. Support secure administration of cloud platforms, SaaS applications, and business-critical systems while maintaining appropriate governance and audit controls.
- Employee Experience & Operational Excellence: Deliver an exceptional employee technology experience through responsive support, streamlined onboarding, self-service capabilities, automation, and continuous process improvement. Build and optimize IT operations, including ticketing workflows, SLAs, knowledge management, documentation, and standard operating procedures. Identify opportunities to automate repetitive IT workflows using AI, scripting, APIs, and modern workplace technologies. Automate and streamline employee onboarding and offboarding for seamless access administration.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in IT systems administration, workplace technology, support engineering, or a related role, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment.
- Strong hands-on experience managing a Mac-first fleet through an enterprise MDM platform such as Hexnode, Jamf, Kandji, or equivalent.
- Experience administering Google Workspace or a comparable cloud productivity and email suite.
- Strong identity and access management experience, including identity providers, SSO, SAML/OIDC, MFA, group-based access, lifecycle automation, and privileged or temporary access.
- Working knowledge of endpoint protection/EDR, DLP, VPN, and device compliance controls.
- Comfortable supporting conference room AV, video conferencing systems, and hands-on office technology needs.
- A track record of operating effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments while communicating priorities and tradeoffs clearly.
- Strong customer-service mindset and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Comfortable working onsite and providing hands-on desk-side support if needed.
Bonus Points
- Experience managing enterprise networking, including Wi-Fi, switches, VLANs, MDF/IDF infrastructure, and RADIUS authentication.
- Experience developing IT documentation, knowledge bases, operational metrics, dashboards, and executive reporting.
- Experience automating IT operations using Python, PowerShell, Bash, APIs, AI/LLMs, or workflow automation platforms.
