About the role
NiSource is a large utility company serving millions of customers across six states. This role is part of the IT infrastructure team, focusing on the design, development, and support of technology solutions.
Responsibilities
- Travel daily to company locations and fleet sites to install, diagnose, maintain, repair, and support vehicle installed and facility-based technology systems.
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair 12-volt DC vehicle wiring, low voltage electronics, and associated hardware, including telematics devices, routers, power timers, and mobile computing equipment.
- Provide onsite and remote technical support for network connected devices, mobile systems, and field technology platforms.
- Configure, deploy, and support mobile devices and applications, including basic user training and troubleshooting.
- Accurately document service activities, including diagnostics performed, repairs completed, parts used, and customer or end user interactions.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders, vendors, and end users to ensure service quality and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and inventory in proper working condition.
- Track, submit, and report expenses in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Identify recurring technical issues, recommend corrective actions, and contribute to continuous improvement of service delivery processes.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques to diagnose issues, resolve incidents, and implement effective solutions.
- Comply with contractual obligations, service level agreements (SLAs), and expectations of service providers and business partners.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of experience working in field service, vehicle electronics, utility technology, or a related technical support role.
- 3+ years of experience working on 12-volt DC vehicle wiring and low voltage electronic systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel daily to multiple job sites.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including working in confined spaces and lifting equipment.
- Valid Driver License with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the utility, energy, telecommunications, or fleet services industry.
- Experience with telematics systems, mobile technology deployments, or fleet technology installations.
- Familiarity with safety critical or regulated operating environments.
- Industry certifications related to networking, electronics, vehicle systems, or field service.
