About the role
Summary IT Infrastructure Engineer III / Senior at APS, this role supports the technology behind Arizona’s non-nuclear generation fleet, ensuring reliability, security, and future readiness.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintain SCADA and related infrastructure for renewable and fossil generation facilities.
- Partner with generation teams to troubleshoot issues, support applications, and improve system performance.
- Travel to generation sites for hands-on support and represent the IT team as a trusted technical partner.
- Work on infrastructure projects that enhance security, reliability, and future readiness of generation systems.
- Participate in a 24x7x365 rotational support model for continuous operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field.
- Five (5) years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
- Strong technical knowledge within a job area or system, and basic knowledge across related technical areas.
- Experience supporting IT infrastructure and applications in an operational or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of renewable and fossil generation systems.
- Collaborative, service-oriented mindset with a focus on reliability, safety, and customer support.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge Or Qualifications
- Proficient in maintaining/troubleshooting SCADA HMI platforms.
- Troubleshooting; installing and repairing PC hardware and software.
- Advanced design, maintenance and repair of servers.
- Advanced information system configuration management.
- Knowledge of renewable and fossil generation plant equipment, including inverters, controllers, and tracking systems.
- Experience supporting battery management systems, including troubleshooting issues and interfacing with vendors.
- Experience providing network support, including troubleshooting, configuration, and performance monitoring.
- Proficient in server administration across virtualized and physical environments for both Windows and Linux systems.
- Hands-on experience managing and supporting Active Directory, including user/group administration and policy management.
- Ability to travel to generation facilities and corporate offices as needed.
- Ability to develop and write technical documentation; evaluate and test emerging technologies.
Major Accountabilities
- Build and maintain HMI systems within a process control environment.
- Drive restoration of HMI/SCADA systems impacting generation operations.
- Interface with vendors for support and engineering of systems during projects and upgrades.
- Provide higher level support to help desk personnel or other engineers/analysts.
- Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call support schedule for mission-critical applications.
- Manage projects at this level, requiring responsibility for the delegation of work and the review of others' work products and engineering projects.
- Partners with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operations.
- Act as primary on-site IT/OT representative for generation facilities.
- Act as primary coordination point between Generation IT, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, and plant operations.
