IT Generalist I
About the role
Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining specialized desktop and server systems utilized across the college. Ensures system integrity by securing infrastructure, monitoring usage, and troubleshooting technical issues. Oversees system security status and system resource management including CPU usage and disk usage. Conducts a variety of evaluations, maintenance, and installations to ensure optimal network performance in line with faculty and staff expectations. Provides guidance and recommendations to technicians on system configurations and installations. Stays up to date on evolving computing and networking technologies and ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Assists in maintaining both physical and virtual computer security systems by implementing and maintaining security applications in order to support the control systems and subsystems employed by the computing center. Deploys and updates application versions required for laboratory use.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the emerging state-of-the-art systems and networking technologies by reading journals, manufacturer literature, and other appropriate material.
- Attends conferences, workshops, and seminars which will be useful for skill assessment and improvement.
- Provides computer support to the College of Engineering and Computing on daily operations of EIC IT systems and networking.
- Operational tasks performed in an appropriate and timely manner for systems and services include: installation, monitor, repair, and upgrade on a variety of Linux and Microsoft systems; and administration of typical services like file service, authentication, remote access, application serving, virtual machines, hosted services, databases, backups, and network routing.
- Aids in the implementation and support of the computing hardware and software architectures.
- Aids with advising faculty and staff on purchases of computer and related equipment.

- High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in the field; or technical certification or associated degree.
- Experience working with computer operating systems like Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux/Unix.
- Experience configuring and maintaining computer hardware, components, operating systems, and peripherals.
- Experience working with modern networking equipment.
Qualifications
