About the role

Virta Health is on a mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives.

We are seeking an experienced IT Engineer to take on a pivotal role in supporting our rapidly growing, distributed team of 1,000+ U.S. employees. Reporting to the Director of IT, you will spearhead our most technically complex projects, with a heavy emphasis on workflow automation and operational efficiency. • Continuously audit systems and processes to discover and execute on cost-saving opportunities
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Collaborate with the Security team to architect and maintain a Zero Trust security model using enterprise tools
    • Ensure all IT infrastructure meets rigorous compliance standards, including SOC2, HIPAA, and HITRUST

  • On-Call:
    • Serve as a primary escalation point for complex, high-level IT support inquiries
    • Participate in an on-call rotation (covering approximately 20% of nights and weekends) to triage and resolve urgent, system-critical issues

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Fully flesh out the project plan for the implementation of Device Trust
  • Implement or improve upon at least one automation workflow
  • Evaluate the current Mac fleet's Zero-Touch device provisioning and identify areas to optimize efficiency and hardware inventory accuracy

Must-Haves

  • Demonstrated 3+ years experience in a Systems Administrator, IT Engineer, or senior escalation-level IT Support role, ideally within a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Solid understanding of IT security fundamentals, including Zero Trust concepts
  • Experience with Okta SSO configuration, user lifecycle management, and Workflows for advanced automation
  • Enterprise Mac endpoint and macOS administration experience (Jamf strongly preferred)
  • Successful design and implementation of repeatable AI-enabled workflows that address team bottlenecks and improve efficiency

Values-driven culture

Virta's company values drive our culture, so you'll do well if:

  • You put people first and take care of yourself, your peers, and our patients equally
  • You have a strong sense of ownership and take initiative while empowering others to do the same
  • You prioritize positive impact over busy work
  • You have no ego and understand that everyone has something to bring to the table regardless of experience

  • You are evidence-based and prioritize data and science over seniority or dogma
  • You take risks and rapidly iterate
