USD is seeking an IT Engineer to provide support to install, program, test, and maintain infrastructure systems at the University of South Dakota.
About the role
The successful candidate will support hardware and software needs for the campus, work with vendors to specify hardware and software solutions, and recommend enhancements to campus infrastructure and resources. This position includes on-call responsibilities. This is a 100% full-time position, on campus in Vermillion, SD.
Responsibilities
- Daily service requests and break/fix work
- Ensuring clear documentation is created and maintained for all infrastructure services
- Monitoring performance and availability of infrastructure systems
- Accurate inventory maintenance
- Documenting test plans and their outcomes
- Working with a variety of network services, security systems, email services, directory services, configuration management products, storage systems, virtualization products, cloud services, load balancing systems, and web systems
Requirements
Knowledge of
- Networking protocols and operating systems
- Client and server operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, Linux)
- Cloud infrastructure and services (Azure Cloud, Microsoft 365)
- Storage systems and data backup systems
- Systems and Network Operating Center monitoring tools
- Security technologies
Ability to
- Troubleshoot and repair IT infrastructure problems
- Identify and implement improvements to IT infrastructure
- Communicate technical concepts to non-technical users
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Evaluate new hardware and software for usefulness and to determine the best solution to needs
