This position is in the Cyber Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f and does not convey eligibility for conversion to the Competitive Service. It supports the mission of the US Cyber Command and is categorized as a Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure, located in the DISA - HC/Infrastructure/Sustainment LOB.

Responsibilities

  • Gather infrastructure requirements to design, develop, plan, deploy, and implement solutions within a complex hybrid infrastructure, including on-premise and multi-classification cloud environments.
  • Configure, install, test, and maintain network infrastructure devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and their operating systems.
  • Monitor network performance and capacity, diagnose connectivity problems, and apply necessary patches to mitigate security vulnerabilities.
  • Integrate new systems into the existing network architecture and provide expert feedback on network design and infrastructure requirements.
  • Apply a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and network security measures to protect against malware and cyber threats.
  • Ensure network operations comply with all applicable national laws, regulations, policies, and ethical standards related to cybersecurity.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
  • This national security position requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • Must complete Foundational Qualifications within 9 months and Residential Qualification requirements within 12 months as per DoD 8140 policy series.
  • Subject to drug testing upon entry and on a random basis thereafter.
  • May be required to physically report to the duty station during non-essential employee excusals or Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plan activations.
  • May be placed in a 24/7 standby or recall status, including carrying a mobile device for direct recall to duty.
  • May be required to work at an alternate duty station during COOP activations.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

Basic Requirements

  • Attention to Detail: Experience reviewing IT-related work or data and being asked by others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards.
  • Customer Service: Experience maintaining customer relationships, assessing IT needs, and developing tailored IT products or services.
  • Oral Communication: Experience briefing mid-level management and IT staff on system status, projects, or daily operations, including communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Problem Solving: Experience identifying alternatives for complex IT-related issues by gathering information from various sources to provide potential solutions.

Qualifying Experience

For the GG-13 level, your resume must describe at least one year of experience demonstrating the following competencies:

  • Network design and implementation.
  • Maintenance of multi-cloud architectures.
  • Analysis, operation, test, evaluation, and maintenance of vendor technologies, including but not limited to Juniper, Cisco, and Palo Alto routers/switches/firewalls, F5 Load Balancers, and DNS Bind.

Volunteer experience, including work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) or other organizations, may be credited if it demonstrates the required competencies. Candidates must describe how they meet the qualifying experience within their resume. All qualifications must be met within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Education

There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experience at the GG-13 grade level.

  • This position is in the Excepted Service and does not convey eligibility for conversion to the Competitive Service.
  • A three-year trial period may be required if you have not previously completed a trial or probationary period in the excepted or competitive service.
  • Telework availability is based on mission requirements and supervisory determination.
  • This position is designated as "Mission Essential," requiring reporting to duty or relocation within the U.S. during local/national emergencies.
  • Subject to recall or call-back during off-shift hours, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
  • Shift work is required, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts (hours specified at a later date).
  • Veterans' Preference will be applied to eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C.
