IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC)

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does not convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It is identified as necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command, within the Professional Work Category at the Full Performance Work Level.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the cybersecurity program of an information system or network, including strategic, personnel, infrastructure, requirements, policy enforcement, emergency planning, security awareness, and other resources.
  • Develops cyberspace plans, strategy, and policies and procedures aligning cyberspace missions and initiatives, ensuring systems reliability and accessibility, and preventing and defending against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.
  • Develops, interprets, plans, and applies policy, process, procedure, and strategy in the delivery of multi-discipline IT services required to achieve data and system integration/interoperability for assigned systems and applications.
  • Provides expert technical guidance, interpretation, and implementation oversight of information security policies, processes, and practices to ensure continued operational availability and integrity of applications, systems, networks, and data.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
  • This national security position requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • In accordance with the DoD 8140 policy series, the position requires completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and Residential Qualification requirements overall in 12 months.
  • Individuals tentatively selected for drug testing designated positions will be required to submit to urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment or placement.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

Basic Requirements

Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position. For vacancies below the full-performance level, the basic requirement will be evaluated on a developmental basis:

  • Attention to Detail: Experience reviewing your own information technology-related work or data and being asked by others to review their work or data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards.
  • Customer Service: Experience maintaining relationships with customers, assessing current information technology needs, and developing or identifying tailored IT products and services.
  • Oral Communication: Briefing mid-level management and IT staff on the status of information technology systems, projects, or daily operations, including communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying alternatives to address complex IT-related issues by gathering and applying information from a variety of sources that provide potential solutions.

Qualifying Experience

To qualify at the GG-13 level, your resume must describe at least one year of experience demonstrating the competencies necessary for immediate success. Experience includes:

  • Conducting risk and vulnerability assessments (e.g., alerts, advisories, errata, and bulletins) of planned or installed information systems.

Candidates must describe how they meet the qualifying experience and/or selective placement factor(s) within their resume. All qualifications must be met within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Education

There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experience at the GG-13 grade level.

  • This position is in the Excepted Service and does not convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.
  • A three-year trial period may be required if you have not previously completed a trial or probationary period in the excepted or competitive service.
  • Telework availability will be based upon mission requirements and supervisory determination.
