IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC)

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does not convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It is a professional, full-performance level role within the DISA OC/DISA Global Operations Command (DG3).

About the Role

Performs Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) on behalf of the Defense Information System Network as part of the DISA Cyber Security Service Provider team. Responsibilities include intrusion detection, incident response, countermeasure development, and executing actions to protect the Global Infrastructure supporting the DoD, Services, and Agencies.

Implements, manages, maintains, and analyzes tactics, techniques, procedures (TTPs), and security requirements to protect the DISA Enterprise and its stored information. Provides command and control for DCO operations, incident response, security monitoring, and cyber threat analysis. Prepares white papers, implementation plans, and briefings for senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) for the Defense Information System Network.
• Perform intrusion detection, incident response, and countermeasure development.
• Implement, manage, and analyze security tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to protect the DISA Enterprise.
• Provide command and control for DCO operations, including security monitoring and cyber threat analysis.
• Prepare white papers, implementation plans, and briefings for senior leadership.
• Execute actions to protect the Global Infrastructure supporting the DoD, Services, and Agencies.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance; failure to maintain eligibility may result in termination.
• Must complete Foundational Qualifications within 9 months and Residential Qualification requirements within 12 months per DoD 8140 policy.
• This is a drug-testing designated position.
• Requires working an alternative or shift work schedule.
• Mission Essential position: Incumbent must physically report to duty during emergencies when non-essential employees are excused.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the following basic requirements:

• Attention to Detail: Experience reviewing IT-related work or data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Customer Service: Experience maintaining customer relationships, assessing IT needs, and developing tailored solutions.
• Oral Communication: Experience briefing mid-level management and IT staff on system status, projects, or operations, including translating technical information for non-technical audiences.
• Problem Solving: Experience identifying solutions to complex IT issues by gathering and applying information from multiple sources.

Qualifying Experience: At least one year of experience demonstrating competencies in:

• Conducting cyber risk and vulnerability assessments.
• Planning and developing security countermeasures.
• Implementing procedures and methods for protecting IT networks and managing defensive cyber operations incidents.

Volunteer experience (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) may be credited. Candidates must describe how they meet qualifying experience in their resume. All qualifications must be met within 30 days of the announcement closing date. No substitution of education for experience is applicable at the GG-12 grade level.

Schedule

This position requires shift work. Shift hours are as follows:

• DG33: Days: 0630-1500; Swings: 1430-2200; Mids: 2230-0700 (CST).
• DG34: Days: 0500-1330; Swings: 1300-2130; Mids: 2100-0530 (MST).
• DG35: Days: 0700-1530; Swings: 1500-2330; Mids: 2300-0730 (Local).
