About the Role

California Institute of Applied Technology (CIAT) is growing and seeking educators and professionals with a passion for mentoring others. With flexible schedules and an online campus, we empower working students, whether they are just starting out, making a career change, or transitioning into civilian life.

This is a variable-hour, non-exempt position reporting to the VP of Education. Remote work must be performed while residing in California, New Mexico, Florida, or Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

  • Teach synchronous online courses via Microsoft Teams, with flexibility for evenings and weekends based on the course schedule.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning and engagement, aligning with CIAT’s adult learner framework and certification readiness.
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Employ effective teaching strategies to communicate subject matter in a synchronous online format.
  • Maintain current certifications in subjects taught through renewal and professional development.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the field and connect subject matter with related disciplines.
  • Design, update, and align course materials with college standards for adult learners.
  • Select instructional materials that align with course objectives and keep the curriculum up to date.
  • Review course material for accuracy and relevance, providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards for instructional quality and education.
  • Maintain accurate and updated student records for attendance and grades in the student database.
  • Promote collaboration with staff and participate in new projects and initiatives.
  • Adhere to CIAT’s business casual attire policy (neat, clean, and professional clothing).
  • Maintain FERPA compliance and handle student data securely.
  • Comply with all college policies, procedures, and regulations, including those related to academic integrity and student conduct.

Requirements

  • Appropriate certification in one or more of the following: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, ISC2 CISSP, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a training setting, ideally delivering IT certification bootcamps.
  • Advanced subject matter expertise preferred.
  • Synchronous online teaching experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in curriculum development and instructional design for IT certification bootcamps.
  • Familiarity with CertMaster, TestOut, or similar training tools is preferred.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • High level of flexibility, creativity, and dependability.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and learning technologies such as Canvas and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and multitask effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with a sense of urgency.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that respects diversity.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in higher education and instructional delivery.

Pay

$41 - $44 USD per hour.

Schedule

This is a variable-hour position. Live bootcamp classes may be scheduled Monday through Friday or on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) for 8 hours per day. Class times are to be determined.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while using a computer, mouse, and telephone.
  • Frequent use of computers to input and search for information while speaking on the phone.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations as part of regular tasks.
  • Dependability and excellent attendance records.

Work Environment

This is a remote position to be performed from a home office. Employees must ensure their workspace is safe, ergonomic, and secure. The company provides reasonable accommodations and necessary work-related equipment but is not responsible for maintaining the home office environment beyond these provisions. Workers' compensation and liability for home office injuries are covered per company policy and applicable laws.
