About the role

The IT Business Analyst translates functional specifications into viable technical solutions that meet business needs. This role involves collaboration with architecture, process, testing, and deployment teams to design integrated solutions. Projects are typically medium in scope, cross-functional, and technically complex, potentially involving multiple platforms and technologies. The position works closely with functional process owners to define business requirements and provide IT solutions for complex business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Requirements Definition and Design (60%):
    • Elicit and document requirements for business systems through collaboration with business users.
    • Support technical design and development activities of solutions.
    • Develop in-depth knowledge of end-to-end technical solutions and their functional capabilities.
    • Understand limitations of technologies and software used in business systems.
    • Maintain end-to-end ownership and accountability of technical solutions.
    • Collaborate with developers to review solution architecture and design.
    • Work with Process Teams and IT organizations on solution design.
    • Maintain system architecture documentation for integrated solutions.
    • Understand capabilities of 3rd party packages and their integration into IT solutions.
    • Analyze system interactions and participate in strategic initiatives like proof-of-concept and prototyping.
    • Design solutions based on development standards and approaches.
    • Oversee and collaborate with IT associates to identify dependencies.
    • Evaluate alternative designs, make recommendations, and document solutions.
    • Prepare technical specifications based on functional specifications.
    • Provide impact assessments for upgrades.
  • Project Management (20%):
    • Maintain detailed project plans and ensure projects are staffed with sufficient resources.
    • Manage project scope to deliver solutions on expected timelines.
    • Provide effort estimates based on business requirements.
    • Provide timely status updates.
    • Maintain awareness of patches and fixes to ensure application health.
  • Application Development and Quality (20%):
    • Perform system testing and coordinate user acceptance testing with business users.
    • Support testing activities by fixing or assisting in defect resolution.
    • Lead and perform testing phases such as extended unit tests and performance tests.
    • Facilitate extended unit tests and provide interface support.
    • Assist with functional acceptance testing as needed.
    • Provide timely defect resolution to minimize project delays.
    • Provide after-hours support.
    • Develop training materials, participate in implementation, and provide post-implementation support.
    • Contribute to, understand, and adhere to application development processes and standards.
    • Research, build, and maintain development standards and approaches.
    • Proactively monitor, perform root cause analysis, and recommend solutions to improve application health.
    • Integrate quality at the source in daily work, teams, and projects.
    • Utilize quality and process tools in individual and team work.
    • Define and document individual processes within your sphere of control.
    • Train others as back-ups on processes within the area/department.
    • Improve processes within your sphere of control.
    • Identify waste and rework, and enact plans to improve or solve issues.
    • Check satisfaction of internal customers using quality tools and metrics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related business field.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in Information Technology.
  • Minimum of 1 year serving as a lead developer.
  • Minimum of 1 year of development experience using Microsoft Visual Studio Suite.
  • Minimum of 1 year of programming experience in an object-oriented SOA environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Microsoft SQL Server development and profiling tools experience.
  • Experience with system integration across equipment and software environments.
  • Experience with implementing an MES (Manufacturing Execution System) in manufacturing plants.
  • Experience with project management best practices.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Project, Visio, PowerPoint, and Excel.
