IT Analyst, Senior Technical

The current vacancy is for an IT Analyst Senior Technical with DBA experience, serving as a key technical analyst and advisor on complex, large-scale database, analytics, and integration projects for Tacoma Public Utilities.
About the Role
This position is a senior technical resource responsible for the reliability, performance, and security of enterprise Oracle, Microsoft SQL, and PostgreSQL environments. Responsibilities include proactive monitoring, optimization, troubleshooting complex issues, and supporting backups, recovery, patching, upgrades, and disaster-recovery planning. The role also provides integration troubleshooting for AMI Operations and ingestion workflows, collaborates with developers and stakeholders, and offers senior-level guidance for capital and O&M projects. Additionally, the position may support the data analytics team with database-focused guidance for analytics and data-modeling activities.
Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and optimize Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL environments.
- Perform backup, recovery, patching, upgrade, and disaster-recovery preparation activities.
- Diagnose complex issues across database, application, ingestion, and infrastructure layers.
- Manage database security, compliance, auditing, and environment lifecycle tasks.
- Support ingestion workflows and provide limited integration troubleshooting to maintain data flow reliability.
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, architects, and vendors on database and integration solutions.
- Provide senior technical guidance for capital and O&M projects requiring database or ingestion support.
- Maintain documentation for database environments, procedures, and operational standards.
- Promote consistent practices, operational resilience, and effective knowledge sharing across teams.
- Support organization-wide operational reliability through proactive monitoring, collaboration, and continuous technical improvement.
- Maintain awareness of non-relational databases such as MongoDB and graph platforms like Neo4j as beneficial future-focused experience.
- Provide optional DBA perspective for analytics and data-modeling efforts, supporting teams that transform application or platform data for analysis.
Requirements
Equivalent combination of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and five or more years of directly related information technology work experience.
Some positions may require a valid Washington State Driver’s License at the time of appointment and ongoing maintenance.
Pay
Hourly Rate: $44.94 - $69.75
