About the role

The Information Technology Analyst Principal (Principal Infrastructure Engineer) manages and oversees a major information technology system, group, or program including staff and contract resources. They plan, design, and coordinate the maintenance of the most difficult and complex infrastructure systems or computerized data processing and applications systems for large, multi-departmental or county-wide functions. They act as a project/team leader and technical expert in assigned areas of responsibility and oversee major information technology initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees major information technology systems, groups, or programs including staff and contract resources.
  • Plans, designs, and coordinates the maintenance of the most difficult and complex infrastructure systems or computerized data processing and applications systems for large, multi-departmental or county-wide functions.
  • Affords technical expertise in project management, system development and design, GIS, infrastructure design and planning, and emerging technology development and implementation.
  • Oversees major information technology initiatives.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Information Technology or related field.
  • Experience: Six (6) years of information technology systems and/or application development and support experience including two (2) years of project lead or supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications

Positions in this classification have the highest subject matter expertise for the assigned area and are proficient in project management, system development and design, GIS, infrastructure design and planning, and emerging technology development and implementation. This Class Is Distinguished From The Information Technology Analyst IV by responsibility for a major section, program or initiative with a high level of independence and responsibility for significant resources.

Position Requirements

  • Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: Technical certifications demonstrating expertise in specific bodies of knowledge may be required.

Selection Process

July 20, 2026 – 5:00pm Deadline to submit application and required documents. The qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses.

Background Checks

The County may conduct background, credit and reference checks on candidates prior to appointment to this class. The background check may include the State of California Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Child Abuse Central Index (CACI), and criminal checks in any state, city, and/or county where the applicant has lived, worked, or gone to school.

Other Requirements

  • Independent Travel: The employee may be required to travel independently, for example, to perform work at other work sites, to attend meetings with other County employees, to attend meetings with community organizations, etc.
  • Work Hours: The employee may be required to work weekends, holidays, irregular hours, on-call, and after normal business hours.
