About the role

The County of Solano seeks a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to lead its enterprise infrastructure strategy, cloud adoption, technology modernization, cybersecurity architecture, and AI-enabled initiatives. This role serves as a senior technical engineer and trusted advisor to County leadership, technical teams, business stakeholders, and technology partners.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and recommend complex technical options for enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, identity management, Zero Trust security, networking, disaster recovery, automation, application hosting, and vendor-delivered technology solutions.
  • Champion secure, resilient, scalable, and sustainable technology solutions that support critical public services.
  • Educate and advise County leadership, technical teams, business stakeholders, and technology partners on technical strategies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external technology partners to ensure alignment with County goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures related to enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, identity management, Zero Trust security, networking, disaster recovery, automation, application hosting, and vendor-delivered technology solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, identity management, Zero Trust security, networking, disaster recovery, automation, application hosting, and vendor-delivered technology solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience in enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, identity management, Zero Trust security, networking, disaster recovery, automation, application hosting, and vendor-delivered technology solutions.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure or equivalent cloud platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust security principles and practices.
  • Experience with network design and management, including disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting languages.
  • Experience with application hosting and deployment.
  • Experience with vendor-delivered technology solutions.

  • Proven ability to evaluate complex technical options and explain tradeoffs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with data analytics and machine learning.

Pay

$143,186.92 - $174,044.60 Annually

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
