About the Role

The Robotic Branch of the Intelligent Sustainable Technologies Division (ITSD) within the Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS) is seeking a student Co-op starting Fall 2026. This position involves working on various aspects of dexterous control of a robotic arm and small mobile platforms. Responsibilities include background research, SolidWorks design, programming, debugging, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct background research on robotic control systems
  • Create SolidWorks designs for mechanical components
  • Write and debug software for robotic control
  • Test and refine robotic systems

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Eligibility to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms
  • To complete at least three full-time co-op terms before graduation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of design principles
  • Experience with rigid body transformations and their numeric representations
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Familiarity with Linux and open-source tools
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (git in particular)
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to non-technical personnel
