ISS (In-School Suspension) Facilitator Elementary

About the role

Supervise and monitor students assigned to the In-School Suspension Program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision for students assigned to the In-School Suspension classroom.
  • Perform discipline data entry and take daily attendance.
  • Act as liaison for teachers, staff, and administration.
  • Review in-school suspension policies, procedures, and student expectations with students daily.
  • Work with students and other staff members during student reflection periods on behavior management and prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in ISS assignment.
  • Monitor all ISS assignments; provide encouragement, feedback, and instructional assistance as appropriate.
  • Ensure students are escorted to restroom facilities.
  • Communicate with teachers regarding student work.
  • Facilitate and arrange delivery of student lunches when necessary.
  • Assist students in reflecting on behavioral choices and developing positive replacement behaviors.
  • Support students in practicing schoolwide behavior expectations and social-emotional skills.
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Reinforce PBIS expectations and restorative practices.
  • Communicate positively with students to build relationships and encourage successful reintegration into the classroom.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skill.
  • Must meet Arizona Department of Health Services safety and health requirements, including proof of immunity from Measles and Rubella.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
  • Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment.

Skills

  • Knowledge of school and classroom rules, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to interpret and establish appropriate rules, methods, and techniques in maintaining a disciplined academic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and patience.
  • Experience working with students and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation:
    • Critical sensory requirements: general vision corrected to 20/20, hear or listen in the normal range (corrected), and speak clearly.
    • Able to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift (exerting force up to 50 pounds), carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 125 lbs.
