About the Role
The Application Engineer provides direct engineering support to clients, including quotation development, logistics, sales fulfillment, and customer service within a defined sales territory. This role involves collaborating with internal teams and customers on application consultations, product selections, and sales processes.
Responsibilities
- Engineer, select, configure, and quote products and services for industrial process control clients.
- Formulate creative solutions while working within logistic constraints and ensuring timely delivery.
- Own and direct the internal flow of quotes and orders for multiple business units.
- Develop technically sound final control process solutions beneficial to both the customer and Control Southern.
- Respond quickly and thoroughly to requests for quotes, orders, and technical support.
- Process customer purchase orders in a timely manner.
- Monitor, protect, and grow profit margins.
- Participate actively in training assignments and classes.
- Advocate for customers regarding issues or problems with principal suppliers.
- Develop an advanced understanding of technical specifications and customer business constraints.
- Manage the sales process from quote-to-cash, including qualifying sales leads using Sander Selling System processes and Challenger Sale philosophies.
- Support the On-Call Emergency After Hours phone rotation (may include use of a company-issued cell phone).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (B.S.) or equivalent from a four-year college; preferred areas of study include mechanical, chemical, biochemical, industrial, materials, and/or electrical engineering.
- Two years of industry-related experience, with preference for process control functions.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Exposure to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software (e.g., IFS, Oracle, SAP) preferred.
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (e.g., Salesforce, ACT!) preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Highly customer-focused with a problem-solving mindset.

Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role, though some filing is required, which may involve lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and occasional bending or standing. The ability to remain seated at a keyboard for extended periods is necessary.
Travel
Travel is required as necessary, typically five to ten days per year.
