Controls Engineer

Daikin Applied is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, test, and implement controls systems for cutting-edge HVAC equipment. Under direct supervision, you will collaborate with project teams, design detailed controls systems, program control sequences, and ensure systems operate efficiently to meet customer environmental needs.
Location: Staunton, VA – On-site
Responsibilities
- Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope
- Under supervision, provide limited advice and analyze information within a specific function for others in the organization
- Evaluate, analyze, and recommend products, designs, and cost improvements under the guidance of experienced engineers to enhance the company’s competitive position
- Identify and procure materials needed to construct prototypes and participate in the design engineering of new models
- Support the planning and development of test programs for prototypes
- Analyze test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications
- Assist in analyzing, evaluating, sourcing, and coordinating the procurement of new materials and components to support model changes
- Analyze, evaluate, and recommend cost improvement ideas through product, vendor, and design changes with direction
- Perform technical analysis of competitive products
- Provide support to sales and marketing on product presentations and customer literature
- Support manufacturing to implement controls systems in manufactured products
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with laboratory, design, and product marketing teams
- Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with vendors for mechanical/electrical facility systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Control Systems, or a related field
- Understanding of HVAC equipment and components
- Ability to read an electrical schematic
- Exposure to fundamentals of instrumentation, including RTDs, thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, electrical and power measurements, and analog/digital data acquisition
- Formal coursework in measurement systems, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, and strength of materials
- Programming experience

Pay
The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $62,000 to $124,300 in Virginia. The range reflects the pay for all positions in this job grade. Individual base pay will depend on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
