About the role

This Technician will be responsible for the safe and proper execution of Thompson Industrial jobs across all service lines at customer locations. As a safety-conscious team member, you will plan, lead, organize, and coordinate the daily operations of two or more crews. Responsibilities include ensuring the proper operation of equipment, driving operational efficiencies at the work site, and completing accurate job-related documentation in a timely fashion. Technicians also serve as representatives of Thompson Industrial, fostering continuous working relationships with clients and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Act as safety representative responsible for safety policies and procedures of both the company and the customer, including hands-on information regarding operations, safety, equipment, emergency response, and administrative functions.
  • Hands-on operation of manual and automated hydro-blasting equipment, including ultra-high-pressure pumps and specialized hydro-blasting, chemical cleaning, vacuum trucks, and cutting equipment.
  • Examine surface cleaning to ensure conformance to company and customer specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance on company equipment used on the job.
  • For supervisory roles: Interface with customer representatives regarding job setup and scope, ensure performance and customer requirements are met or exceeded, and implement company policies and procedures at the job site.
  • Report to the branch manager or designee and implement procedures to obtain results specified by the branch manager.

Requirements

  • Specific vocational preparation, including classroom safety training, on-the-job training, and essential experience gained on other jobs.
  • Language proficiency in English to comprehend safety training and respond to instructions in emergency situations.
  • Valid driver’s license and compliance with the company’s driving policy when driving a company vehicle or using a personal vehicle on company business.
  • Knowledgeable in the operation of emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers.
  • Provide Federal Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).

Physical Demands

  • See, read, distinguish, and understand signs in the work area.
  • Hear and distinguish emergency signals while on duty.
  • Execute a 180-degree rotary motion of the cervical spine to allow complete movement of the head and neck.
  • Extend arms above your head.
  • Frequently bend at the waist, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, and crawl.
  • Tolerate being wet from head to toe for an unlimited amount of time.
  • Climb ladders and work from scaffolding and stationary platforms up to heights of 200 ft.
  • Tolerate and function in confined spaces of a minimum of 5 ft inside diameter.
  • Hold the back thrust of 50 lbs on a straight 66” pipe for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Capable of working up to 16 hours per shift.
  • Physically capable of using both negative pressure and air-supplied respirators.
  • Wear protective clothing and/or equipment, including Nomex coveralls, a back belt, slickers, rubber boots, a fresh air breathing mask, an escape pack, and a hard hat.
  • Work under extreme climate conditions (e.g., excessive high heat index of 95°F, 98% humidity; sub-zero weather conditions) relative to geographical location.
  • Exposure to dust (chemical and environmental), fumes (chemical and fluids), exhaust, and highly pressurized fluids (a respirator will be provided when required).
  • Noise levels exceed 85 dBA (hearing protection is provided and required).
  • Lift and maintain a minimum of 40 lbs.
