About the role
The Ironworker position works as a member of a crew to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. This is a non-exempt role that reports to the Foreman and duties are assigned according to specific procedures. Work is checked frequently.
Responsibilities
- Off loads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator
- Sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members
- Fastens steel members to cable of hoist
- Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member
- Guides member or rides on member in order to guide it into position
- Pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device
- Forces members into final position
- Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member
- Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members
- Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted
- Cuts steel members to make alterations
Requirements
- High school or equivalent
- One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
- Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
- Rigging skills including wire rope slings
- Some job sites may require NCCER certification
- Written pre-employment qualification test
- Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
- Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
- Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
- Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace
- NO relocation available for this position; the successful candidate will be a current resident in/near the area

Skills
- Strong understanding of ironworker tools and their usage
- Proficient in rigging and hoisting techniques
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Physical stamina and strength to perform heavy lifting and repetitive tasks
