Ironworker
Position Description
Assists in performing any combination of the following duties: raise, place, and connect girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks according to the layouts or blueprints while working as a crewmember. These duties must be performed in a safe and timely manner with the highest quality possible.
Job Responsibilities
- Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
- Fasten (rig) steel members to hoist using chain, cable, or rope.
- Signal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
- Guide member using tag line (rope) in order to guide it into position.
- Pull, push, or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
- Force member into final position using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks and hand tools.
- Align bolt holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by driving drift pins or handle of spud wrench through holes.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignments of members using plumb bob and level.
- Bolt aligned members to keep in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded into place.
- Cut and weld steel members to make alterations.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
- Maintain work area in clean and tidy manner.
- Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in the field
- Minimum Required Tool List:
- 1 each 25’ Tape
- 1 each 12” Crescent wrench
- 1 each 3/4” Spud Wrench
- 1 each 7/8” Spud Wrench or Adjustable Spud Wrench
- 1 each 30” Sleever Bar
- 1 each 8 Pound Hammer
- 2 each 1” Bull Pin
- 1 each Harness with Bolt Bag, Frog & Safety Cables 3/8”dia
- 1 each Tri-Square
- 1 each Torpedo Level
- 1 each 24” Level
- 1 each 2 Pound Hammer
- 1 set Socket Set up to 1 1/4”
- 1 each Center Punch
- 1 each Chalk Box
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively.
- Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments
- 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work
- Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements
- Must be able to work at heights up to 200 feet
