Job Summary
IMI is seeking a full-time Structural Ironworker local to the Juliette, GA area.
Essential Functions
- Assist senior employees with installing, dismantling, and moving machines, conveyors, and other equipment.
- Interpret structural drawings.
- Understand and perform crane Signaling procedures.
- Align and bolt structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place per structural drawings.
- Understand and perform Proper rigging techniques.
- Direct cranes to move structural steel components and other materials onto and around the construction site.
- Connect steel columns, beams, and girders with drift pins to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.
- Drill and/or ream holes into steel for bolting.
- Number steel according to assembly instructions.
- Unload and safely stack steel on cribbing.
- Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.
- Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment and elevations.
- Pass an all-position SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) exam.
- Conduct welding operations under intense conditions such as extreme heights, confined spaces, and inclement weather.
- Troubleshoot structures to identify and initiate repair of welding defects.
- Identify and repair damaged coatings during installation (Painted and Galvanized).
Education and Experience
- 1 - 3 years' experience
- Must be able to pass an all position SMAW exam
- NCCER certification or completion of a related program through an accredited technical school.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, twist, and bend for extended periods of time.
- Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects.
- Lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, including times of inclement weather.
- Manual dexterity needed for repetitive tasks and to operate standard operating equipment.
- Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
- Must be highly safety cautious and have ability to see and escape from dangerous situations.
- Ability to wear PPE correctly for working shifts.
