About the role
Under administrative direction, with wide latitude for decision-making, the Child Welfare Investigations Manager (CWIM) supervises Child Welfare Investigators (CWI) who conduct investigations. This position serves as a resource for Department of Child Safety staff on cases of a criminal nature and ensures adherence to county joint investigation protocols in OCWI investigations. Travel is required for official State business.
Responsibilities
- Assigns reports for investigation to the CWI involving allegations of criminal conduct that are generated by the Child Abuse Hotline.
- Oversees the quality, accuracy, and thoroughness of the investigations conducted by the CWI.
- Maintains up-to-date records and tracking of case activity.
- Provides clinical supervision, approves court reports and dependency petitions, completes case closures, and performs additional duties as determined by the Office of Child Welfare Investigations (OCWI) Chief.
- Attends management meetings, high-profile staffing, multi-disciplinary meetings, Team Decision Meetings (TDM), and fatality review meetings as determined by case and business needs.
- Conducts evaluations and training of the CWI.
- Provides 24-hour on-call support in the office on-call rotation, as necessary.
- Drives for State business as an essential function of the job.
- Performs other duties as assigned related to the position.
Requirements
- Two (2) years of experience as an OCWI Investigator/OCWI Assistant Manager with a strong understanding of child welfare investigations, or
- Two (2) years as a DCS Supervisor in an Investigations unit with a strong understanding of joint investigation protocol.
- Must obtain and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and clear the DCS Central Registry.
- Driver’s License required; driving or use of a vehicle is an essential function to conduct State business.
- All newly hired State employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
