Investment Analyst - Metals & Mining

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and review detailed life-of-mine financial models covering production, operating cost, capital expenditure, working capital, taxation and cash flow.
  • Perform NAV and DCF valuations for development-stage and operating assets, and assess project economics including NPV, IRR, payback, funding requirements and downside cases.
  • Run sensitivities across price decks, grade, recovery, production, operating cost and capital expenditure.
  • Evaluate capital structures across debt, equity, prepayment, streaming, royalty and offtake financing, including dilution, debt capacity, repayment profiles, covenant headroom and returns.
  • Lead financial, commercial and technical due diligence on investment and trading opportunities, identifying key risks, information gaps and value-creation levers.
  • Review geological, mining, metallurgical, processing and infrastructure information with support from internal and external technical specialists.
  • Support structuring, negotiation and execution, including security, collateral, hedging, offtake, governance and risk-mitigation arrangements.
  • Prepare investment memoranda, presentations and recommendations for senior management, the Investment Committee and the Board.
  • Coverage of external stakeholders such as traders, operators, consultants, financial institutions, legal advisers and other external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology, Mineral Processing, Finance, Economics or another relevant discipline.
  • Approximately 2-4 years of relevant experience in mining investment banking, private equity, corporate development, equity research, project finance, consulting or mining operations.
  • Title and level will be set to reflect experience.
  • Strong financial modelling skills, including NAV and DCF valuation of mining or resource assets and experience building or reviewing life-of-mine models.
  • Ability to read mining technical reports, resource and reserve statements, production schedules, recoveries, operating costs and capital expenditure, and to identify the key commercial and technical drivers of an investment.
  • Ability to convert complex technical and financial information into concise written recommendations for senior management.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented and comfortable working independently across different cultures, jurisdictions and operating environments.
  • Prior experience with prepayment, streaming, royalty and offtake financing structures.
  • Prior time spent at operating mine sites.
  • Additional languages, particularly French, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic.

Location and Travel

  • Based in Stamford, CT
  • On-office.
  • Travel of approximately 25-30%, particularly during the first several years, including trips of three to four weeks.
  • Willing and able to work from mining and processing sites in remote and developing-market jurisdictions, and to adapt to mine-site accommodation and operating environments.
