Inventory Planner
About the role
The Inventory Optimization Outlet Planner is responsible for maximizing the profitability and sell-through of Marine Layer’s aged and off-price inventory across all liquidation channels, including owned outlet stores, online selling, and off-price wholesale partners. This role sits at the intersection of inventory strategy, sales execution, and operational fulfillment, and is critical to protecting brand integrity while driving profitable inventory resolution.
Responsibilities
Own the assortment and inventory flow strategy across outlet stores, partnering with the Visual team to ensure presentation standards and product adjacencies are optimized
Determine and execute outlet pricing strategy, including initial ticket price, and markdown cadence, in partnership with Planning to ensure alignment with margin goals
Analyze outlet sales trends, price point and category productivity, and inventory depth to identify and act on opportunities
Develop and execute store-level allocation strategies to accelerate inventory turns and drive profitable sell-through against inventory movement targets
Conduct regular sell-through and inventory health reviews to flag underperforming styles and recommend action
Ensure outlet assortment reflects brand standards and does not conflict with full-price channel positioning
Inventory management & channel optimization
Determine optimal inventory deployment across outlet, online web sales, and off-price wholesale to maximize profitability
Partner with the Planning team to identify at-risk and aging inventory; develop mitigation strategies in-season before liability compounds
Build and manage linesheets for each off-price customer, incorporating style-level costing, available inventory, and account specific margin targets
Report on aging on-hand inventory at key seasonal milestones, with recommended action plans
Off-price Sales & wholesale customer management
Manage end-to-end commercial relationships with off-price wholesale accounts, including Marmaxx and Nordstrom Rack
Lead offer negotiations with a focus on margin maximization, not just volume movement
Identify and cultivate new wholesale partnerships with favorable margin profiles to diversify the channel mix
Order fulfillment & operations
Manage end-to-end order processing, including order entry in NetSuite and warehouse WMS, item fulfillment tracking, and invoicing for timely payment
Adhere to all vendor compliance guidelines and routing handbooks for wholesale accounts
Cook up accurate shipment information and on-time execution without exception needs
Qualifications
1 - 3 years experience in inventory planning, merchandise planning, or a wholesale/off-price buying role
Strong analytical skills; comfortable working with sell-through data, margin math, and inventory aging reports
Proficiency in Excel; experience with NetSuite or similar ERP a plus
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple customer accounts and operational workflows simultaneously
A clear communicator who can translate inventory data into actionable commercial recommendations
A collaborative team player who can work cross-functionally with Planning, Visual, and Warehouse teams
