About the Role

The Interventionist provides support to the instructional program by assisting teachers and administration with prevention and intervention services for students with behavioral issues. This role coordinates the BIST model with at-risk youth and proactively addresses students' needs. The position reports to the Principal and/or Director of Student Support Services.

Responsibilities

  • Assists teachers in managing students whose behavior is out-of-control to maintain a calm school environment and ensure students' success.
  • Communicates with students, parents, teachers, administration, and other staff to express concerns, resolve issues, and develop plans for student success.
  • Facilitates prevention and intervention protocols for identified, at-risk students to address behavioral issues, alleviate isolation, identify support resources, enhance coping skills, and provide referrals.
  • Intervenes with chronic offenders to de-escalate crisis situations, process the situation, provide alternatives, and return the student to regular studies as quickly as possible.
  • Maintains confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic records (e.g., evaluations, reviews, intervention) to document activities in compliance with policies and requirements.
  • Maintains a visible, accessible presence on campus at assigned locations to increase student awareness of program and support services.
  • Provides individual and group support to students and parents to prevent, address, and resolve behavioral issues.
  • Responds to inquiries from internal and external sources to provide information and/or direction as required.
  • Utilizes district-approved behavior management techniques (e.g., talking through problems, teaching coping skills, physical support) to assist students in fully participating in the educational setting.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and committees to convey and gather information required for job functions and program guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

  • Skills required to perform multiple, technical tasks with potential need for skill upgrades, including organizational skills, leadership, intuitive decision-making, office equipment operation, record-keeping, group facilitation, communication, and plan development.
  • Knowledge of basic math, reading and writing documents, practical problem-solving, BIST model, CPI, physical and emotional development of children and adolescents, and mental health issues.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather and collate data; work independently with others in varied circumstances; analyze data; and operate job-related equipment.
  • Ability to remain calm in a crisis, adapt to changing priorities, communicate non-judgmentally with diverse groups, work flexible hours, display patience and humor, respond quickly to verbal input, and maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Job-related experience is required.
  • Targeted, job-related education with study in a relevant area.
  • Missouri Substitute or Teaching Certificate.
  • Criminal background clearance.

Schedule

171 days per year, 7.5 hours per day.

Work Environment

The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job involves 20% sitting, 50% walking, and 30% standing. The environment is generally hazard-free with minimal temperature variations.
