About the Role

Functions under the direction of the Site Manager. The registered nurse is responsible for performing a wide variety of clinical procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The registered nurse implements the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience, providing patient care with an understanding and awareness of age-specific needs. Addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs in providing care to the patient and family.

Work Shift: Day (United States of America)
Schedule: PRN, 6:30 AM - 4:00 PM at Windy Hill Hospital

Responsibilities

Completion of V-ARU competencies
Provide pre- and post-procedure care of patients for invasive, interventional, and surgical procedures
Use critical thinking skills to deliver patient care in complex, multiple-problem patient care situations
Prepare and administer contrast, understanding preparation/administration of doses according to patient's weight and physician order
Administer conscious sedation per system policy and procedure
Prep the patient for procedure and demonstrate sterile technique
Demonstrate IV administration competence and maintenance
Prepare trays and catheters for procedure
Be flexible with hours to meet department needs, including scheduled and on-call hours if necessary
Understand existing lines of communication and authority, handle communications properly, and demonstrate dependability, cooperation, and emotional stability
Introduce self to patient and/or guardian upon entering room utilizing proper scripting
Transport patients as needed and provide privacy and comfort for patient/customers
Assist with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations, and Performance Improvement
Complete necessary paperwork and answer department phone using proper scripting
Complete chart reviews as needed and perform QA/QC functions
Assist in other Medical Imaging areas and other departments in the system as needed
Maintain current successful completion of BLS and ACLS
Understand Scope of Service for Vascular Institute, VARU, and Medical Imaging
Assist in in-service/training for other Medical Imaging staff as appropriate
Review cases with the appropriate physician(s) as needed
Recognize that total patient care starts when the patient arrives and ends when the physician/patient have the imaging results
Meet Service Recovery and Customer Service Guidelines as needed
Coordinate daily schedule of patients
Maintain and check the crash cart in assigned Medical Imaging areas
Verify patient ID using 2 patient identifiers (e.g., armband, DOB, verbal identification)
Verify front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker and written order, seeking clarification if unclear
Understand and comply with verbal order RBAC and perform necessary follow-up with written order
Use and understand pre-procedural verification/time-out form when appropriate
Understand and comply with site/side marking when indicated
Provide patient, family, and support system education, including post-procedural home care instructions
Perform other duties as assigned
Comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct

Requirements

Associate's degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing (Bachelor's degree preferred)
Minimum of 3 years experience in Interventional Radiology (Cardiac cath experience is a bonus)
Experience in moderate sedation
ICU / CCU / ER or previous Cath Lab experience required
