Position Summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a Clinic Manager to oversee Interventional Radiology services. This role involves leading and managing clinical operations to ensure high-quality patient care, health professions education, and research initiatives. The Clinic Manager also serves as the primary administrative liaison between Hospital Administration and the Carver College of Medicine's clinical departments.

Position Responsibilities

  • Financial Management

    • Develops budget priorities responsive to clinic needs and aligns with institutional strategies
    • Provides financial projections and operational recommendations to meet or exceed budget targets
    • Manages financial and productivity data; reviews and analyzes performance relative to targets
    • Monitors budgets and evaluates performance relative to targets; investigates discrepancies and proposes adjustments or solutions
    • Develops hospital budgets; assesses needs for capital equipment and personnel resources; submits proposals with appropriate justification; meets budgetary targets
    • Ensures maintenance and adherence to regulatory standards set by state, federal, UI Health Care, and University policies and procedures
    • Identifies and implements "Lean" standards for clinical operations
    • Allocates resources to meet quality and productivity expectations
  • Patient Care/Service Delivery

  • Coordinates patient care and workflow of Interventional Radiology Techs, Physicians, and Physician Assistants
  • Identifies needs, trends, and forecasts to provide patient care
  • Identifies trends and determines QA priorities
  • Recommends QA and patient/customer satisfaction strategies
  • Develops and monitors plans to enhance patient satisfaction
  • Collaborates with hospital and department leaders to implement best practices and new models of care/service
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations
  • Reviews patient satisfaction data and develops, implements, and evaluates plans to improve performance
  • Investigates patient experience concerns and provides follow-up as delegated to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Models and promotes the Service Excellence model for patient care and staff satisfaction
  • Human Resource Management

    • Responsible for recruitment and training of personnel to maintain an appropriate skill mix and number of staff
    • In collaboration with hospital HR representative(s), ensures a consistent approach to HR management
    • Provides feedback to service unit leadership, detects performance problems, and provides recommendations regarding corrective action as necessary
    • Holds staff members accountable for high performance and high engagement by articulating expectations, monitoring performance, and providing feedback consistently across areas of responsibility
    • Prepares and/or assists with developing resource allocations and staffing models
    • In collaboration with human resources, finance, hospital administration, and department leadership, uses analytical tools related to workforce utilization and productivity and other operational metrics relevant to workforce management
    • Prepares and/or assists with developing workforce models aligned with clinical demand and efficiency
    • Schedules and directs work activities of assigned clinic staff
  • Communication & Collaboration

    • Advocates for the needs of the clinic with healthcare leadership
    • Collaborates with the clinic medical director regarding program development, process improvements, and equipment budgets
    • Fosters a collaborative relationship among staff and hospital and department leadership in a positive manner
    • Provides administrative interface and collaborates with hospital and department administration
    • Represents the clinic in meetings or on committees within UI Health Care
    • Works to ensure that all employees are respected and treated consistently with University policies
  • Education Programs and Research Administration

    • Provides clinical education to develop staff competency
    • Oversees clinical education activities and agreements with other educational institutions
    • Manages appropriate staff level development initiatives to drive quality care and patient satisfaction
    • Collaborates with research staff to ensure clinical and research needs are met

    Educational Requirements

    Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Experience Requirements

    • 3-5 years of progressive clinical leadership
    • 3-5 years recent experience in a Level 1 trauma center in radiology or procedural based care
    • Fiscal management experience: preparing and planning budget
    • Proficiency in computer software applications
    • Demonstrated skills in leadership/management
    • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with a variety of faculty, staff, and students
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Licenses/Certifications

    • Option #1: Certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, or certification in Sonography by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Permit to Practice in the State of Iowa for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment
    • Option #2: Current license to practice nursing in Iowa

    Desired Qualifications

    • Previous supervisory experience
    • Certification in Interventional Radiology
    • Demonstrated positive Services Excellence Skills
    • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations
