About the role
This position creates and implements interpretation for Absaroka District sites, designs and executes educational programs, administers the volunteer program, and organizes special events.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement novel and impactful interpretive programs, activities, special events, and outreach programs for all demographics of visitors.
- Run social media channels for district sites, including, but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
- Train volunteers and staff in our guided tour program.
- Obtain and maintain NAI Certified Interpretive Guide status, implementing techniques from the training.
- Work with people of all backgrounds and walks of life, including children, family groups, and adult audiences as well as historically underrepresented groups.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing; establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public.
- Network with other museums and cultural organizations to collaborate on interpretation, outreach, and special events.
- Work at the front desk, introducing them to the specific site and the others who make up the unit, answering all questions, and listening to feedback.
- Coordinate and/or assist with special events and submit required paperwork.
- Promote events via the website, social media platforms, newspapers, and radio.
- Assist with interviewing prospective applicants for open interpretive positions and making hiring recommendations.
- Discuss and resolve problems regarding processes and work methods, as presented by subordinate workers.
- Provide site-related training to staff and volunteers.
- Fiscally manage site budget.
- Coordinate with volunteer friend group fundraising activities and provide direction on how funds can best benefit the unit.
- Research different avenues of funding and apply for grants when appropriate.
- Assist in the design and distribution of brochures and signage.
Requirements
- Knowledge of best practices for interpretive or educational programming.
- Knowledge in digital media: creating graphics, engaging with visitors, and posting on social media.
- Knowledge of state personnel rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of Federal, state, and agency procedures on a variety of issues.
- Knowledge of how to operate and use cleaning and grounds maintenance supplies.
- Ability to fiscally manage site budget.
- Ability to supervise unit personnel and positively interact with public and agency staff.
Qualifications
- PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to applicants with a bachelor's degree in Cultural Resources, Natural Resources, or Communications plus at least two years of experience working in interpretation and programming, narrative design, research and interpretation.
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Cultural Resources) Experience 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Cultural Resources) OR Education & Experience Substitution 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Cultural Resources)

Benefits
Housing and basic utilities will be provided at Keyhole State Park for a nominal charge of $100.00 per month. The monthly housing deduction is deposited into a dedicated fund to be utilized for future maintenance and necessary upgrades of State housing facilities.

Flexible schedule with potential for evening and weekend work, especially during peak visitor season.
