Interpreter, Educational Lvl 2

About the role

The Educational Interpreter, Level 2, facilitates communication between hearing individuals and students who are deaf or hard of hearing, supporting equal access during various educational activities.

Responsibilities

• Provides interpreting or transliterating services for students, including lectures, field trips, discussions, films, and special projects.
• Interprets for school functions and activities, including parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, athletic practices, and performances.
• Prepares and reviews academic materials and suggests accommodations for student needs.
• Maintains appropriate professional interpreting credentials and participates in professional development.
• Acts as a mentor to newly hired interpreters and provides field-specific technical assistance.
• Updates educational team members regarding student performance and exhibits adaptability and continuous learning.

Requirements

• Attended Interpreter Training Program or passed the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a score of 3.5 - 3.9.
• Member of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
• Fully fluent in English and the appropriate heritage language (American Sign Language).

Qualifications

• Experience in educational interpreting is preferred.

Skills

• Ability to identify and match language needs of consumers.
• Adherence to the RID/National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Code of Professional Conduct and/or EIPA Guidelines for Professional Conduct.
• Confidentiality and professionalism.
